What a Year! Roundup 1997

1997 was pay back time for Aaron McIntosh. The 1996 Olympics had not gone to plan , 4th place not the result I was after , but that’s the way it goes.

Roll on Sydney 2000 !

1997 started slowly, that’s how you take it after six months rest from the sport competing only on the National circuit , results follow.

2nd Sail Auckland International.
1st Mistral National Champs.
1st Olympic sail.
1st Round Rangitoto race , 2 hours 41 mins.
2nd Formula 42 Nationals.
April 17th off to Europe , time to check out what the opposition were up to.
7 weeks full on. Winning races but not regattas simply not enough training.
4th Hyeres French Olympic week.
1st UK Raceboard Nationals
7th SPA Regatta Holland
2nd Nations Cup Italy

I knew were I stood , now back to NZ and plan the assault on the 97 World Championships in Perth Australia , six months away.

A new gym programme and some serious on the water training. By December there would be no excuses.

July , one more trip to Europe this time for the IBSA Raceboard World Championships in Dunkirk , France. Mvc-004f.jpg (51907 bytes)

1st IBSA Raceboard World Championships.
1st Sydney International Regatta.
A chance to check out Sydney Harbour venue for the 2000 Olympics.
1st NZ Winter Champs.

24th October Departed for Perth , Australia to start our location training for the Worlds. Three weeks later I travelled to New Caledonia for the Tradewind Trophy a warm up contest before the big one. 1st again, things were going well , the build up was on target.

To top off 1997 I have been Nominated for New Zealand Sportsman of the year and the Halberg trophy.
